During the halftime of the Superbowl this past Sunday night, I offered some statements as a summary of what we have studied so far in our Love Your Neighbor series. I wanted to post them here. They are just some thoughts that I have jotted down as I have prepared to teach. Perhaps you can use these in having your intentional faith talks or God moments in the coming days!
1. I must love God more than I love others or else I will never be able to love others the way God has commanded me to.
2. I don't love others because they are worthy of my love, but because i love God who is supremely worthy of my love, and his Spirit empowers me to love those who are unworthy or difficult to love.
3. When we love God with all of our heart, mind, and soul, we treat others in a way that brings him glory, longing for them to love God with all their heart, mind, and soul as well.
Question we must always use as a test: "Am I loving ____________________ in a way that encourages them (if a believer) to grow in grace and in their relationship with Jesus OR (if a nonbeliever) to clearly see Jesus for who he is and consider the invitation of the gospel?"
